Athletic Bilbao secured their first league victory in eight matches against Las Palmas at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday afternoon.
The Basque side dominated possession and control throughout the game, but it was Athletic's set piece play that proved to be the difference as they scored the only goal of the match.
In the 55th minute, goalkeeper Diego Alves made an incredible save from Luis Enrique's free kick, deflecting it into his own net.
Despite Las Palmas' best efforts, Athletic were able to hold onto the lead and secure their much-needed win.
The result means Athletic remain in third place in La Liga standings, just one point behind leaders Barcelona.
"This is a huge victory for us," said Athletic coach Unai Emery. "We had a lot of chances to score earlier but couldn't capitalize on them."
"However, we showed great resilience and determination today. We know we still have work to do, but this win is a step forward."
Las Palmas manager Josep Guardiola expressed disappointment in the loss, saying: "It's not a good feeling to lose after so many weeks without a win.
"We knew that if we could break the deadlock, we would have a chance to come back and compete. But we didn't manage to do that today."
The match was closely contested, with both teams creating plenty of chances. However, Athletic's ability to execute their set pieces was crucial in securing the victory.
Overall, it was another impressive performance from Athletic Bilbao, who continue to prove themselves as one of the top clubs in La Liga.
