Barella sets record with goal at Inter Milan

Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi has set a new club record for the most goals in a single Serie A season as he scored his 26th goal of the campaign against Cagliari on Sunday.

Icardi's tally is more than double that of his nearest rival, Juventus' Paulo Dybala, who has netted 11 times this term. The Argentine striker also moved ahead of AC Milan's Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku to become the joint-top scorer in Serie A history.

The 28-year-old has been a revelation for Inter since joining from Sampdoria last summer, scoring 47 goals in all competitions so far this season.

"I'm very happy," Icardi said after the match. "It was a difficult game, but we won. We have a lot of games left and I want to continue."

Inter are currently second in the league table behind leaders Napoli, two points behind Roma in third place.

But despite their impressive form, Inter have struggled defensively this season, conceding 55 goals in 26 matches.

"We need to improve our defense if we want to compete for titles," Icardi added. "We're working hard on it and I believe we can do better."
